04 ranger issues

04 ranger issues
I have 2 problems, i'm hoping someone may be able to answer these questions for me,any help would be greatly appreciated.
1. I need to replace the upper ball joint assembly on the pass. side,is this something I can fix myself? The estimate I got was for almost 400 dollars.
The part is only 135 at napa..if that is the correct part they found...
and 2.
Does anyone know anything about the transmission shifting problems that are associated with the rangers and explorers and codes 733 and 735,I need to know if I would be able install the corrective kit myself ,to remedy that as well.
is there any manual out that covers these issues that doesnt cost a small fortune?

Any chance you have some of the 36/36,000 warranty left?
*I haven't heard of any common problems on any of the 04 trannies. Nor have I heard of a kit to address some tranny problem. Of course, we don't know what engine and tranny you have

*I bought a manual on ebay for about $35. It's on DVD and covers EVERYTHING, in fact it's the exact same manual that a Ford dealer service department uses
. Whatever you do, steer clear of Chiltons and expecially Haynes (very rookie and frequently lacking details).
