I am in the process of putting on crossover on my 73 highboy i was wondering if there is a difference between having a box mounted on the inside of the frame versus outside of the frame. The reason I am wondering this is because it would be easier for me to have one mount on the outside because i have a bend in the top of the frame on the inside of it. Is it possible or do i have to box the frame and mount it inside.
Put the plate to the inside of the C channel and use some grade-8 flat washers. Without a plate, if you're running tires that are bigger than stock, and/or you wheel it much, you'll eventually pull the nuts right on through the holes in the frame.
When I changed the steering box on my '72 this past Summer, I found 2 of the 3 bolts were bent and only finger tight because the frame had been so messed up.
