i havea 1968 f-2504x4 ithas the stock front endin it (solid) i had a wobble in the 50-60mph rage, and so i lifted up my truck and can moe the tie up and down by hand, what could be the proble,i just replaced the bearings, eveything is tight, i was old that it could be ball joints, but i don't thinki have bll joints right? the axle doesn' have and tags, i looked up all of fords axle's that i could find and none of them looked like my design? how can i find out what i have under it? ay help woud be useful. thnx
More than likely your front end is a dana 44. All you have to do is look in the differntial webbing. If you are looking at the diff cover, it should have a number stamped on the lower right hand web. If its not there, look around the housing its there. It will read 44, or 44F.
As far as the wobble, on those types of front ends, dana 44, there is a plasic alignment nipple in the top pivot point, they break and wear out easy. And I believe there is a lower ball joint, but don't make me lie. But your problem is in the knuckle where the axle connects to the turning assembly. Don't be afraid to take it apart, there's not that much to it.
