Hey guys, lately I've been thinking about putting a plow on my '86 f-250. Since I'm a workin' man, I've been hoping to get lucky finding a used set-up. The only problem I've encountered so far is that most of the plows I found don't include the frame mount. Anybody know from what year to what year is would fit my truck?? I've been looking at western, meyers, and fisher plows. So any info on these mounts would be a big help.
Thanks,
Bill
I can only comment on Western(the brand we run), and you should be fine with an 80-86(Other years could possibly work, I'm just going specifically on what our Western Dealer showed us). It also has to be for an F250(F350 may work). A plow mount for a 150 can work with fabrication. We had this done on a spare 250 we have when the 150 it was on was retired from the fleet.
Ok, thanks guys. I've been looking at them on e-bay, but have been a little leary on bidding, 'cause I wasn't sure of the fit. Western was also my first choice.
Hey just pumping some life into this oldie, rather than start another, I can't find much for Minute Mount plow info for 80-86's. I want to buy a used plow but not sure what to look for in a donor. I heard the frame is the same up to 91 so maybe it wont be a problem if I look from 87-91?
Yes, 87-91 is the same, the only thing different is bumper mounting itself. I haven't seen a Fisher plow in a LONG time, but it was the plow to have back when I lived on the east coast... Looks like they even discontinued mounts for the 92-96/7 trucks, so, if you do find one, make sure everything is useable.
Plows are very regional, and Fisher has always been very popular in the northeast, and in the Canadian maritimes(I'm from Cape Breton.)
In my local area, Boss, Western and Arctic are the common ones, with an occasional Meyer(closest dealer is 3.5 hours away) and Blizzard.
As for the bumper attachment, with some plow bracket setups, the bumper ends up bolted to or through the push frame itself.
Just for the record, I think fisher part number 7132 is the correct push plate for the 80-86 trucks as well. http://library.fisherplows.com/fisherplows/pdffiles/6485.03_050106.pdf
If I ever verify this I will make sure to post back my findings
Just to clarify. 80-91 frames will bolt on. (slightly different bumper mounts on the 87-91)
A 92+ frame will NOT.
The biggest problem with the older plow setups for the truck is they are hard mount. And by that I mean when you take the plow off in the summer season, you still have all the lights pump and mount still on the truck. I guess it doesnt bother some, but for me it is a nuisance to clean around and work around. Also when you go to put the plow on the truck for each storm, you end up laying on the ground to hook the two lower pins. Not my idea of a good time.
if you are handy, look for a "quick attach" setup and modify it to your truck. Western callers their Uni-mount(earlier style) and Ultra Mount(current style) Fisher had the minute mount 1 and 2.
I have yet to see any quick attach setup my meyers
I decided to use an older arctic that was on an early pre 90 bronco and modify the frame to fit my 97 truck, today we finally have the front harness attached and will do the bottom plow mount tomorrow, i plan on mounting the pump behind the front cross section and cutting the middle lower chunk of bumper out for top ups and fit around the top support braces
