EGT on Startup

I recently had 3 guages installed on the A pillar. Still getting used to them and had a question on the Pyrometer. On startup, the temperature is 200. It would seem to me that if it was picking up ambient temp. it would be 100 at max. during a summer day. Just curious as to what you guys notice when you start your trucks for the first time of the day.

When you say "on startup" is this before the engine is running like just the electrical is on, or after the egine if firing?

Also, is your pyro pre or post turbo? That will also make a difference in your expected operating range.

I have a post-turbo pyro and when idling my guage reads like 300-400 or something near there if I remember correctly.

It's cal'd to work in a certain temp range. Lowest is probably set to 200 since
it's useless to read ambient.

It is post turbo and I was talking about when starting first thing in the morning or after it has been sitting for awhile.

Thanks Nut, that makes perfect sense. Did not even think about that.

Too cold here to read ambient right now. Mine will work it's way up to 200 within a minute of starting the engine. I suppose if you parked in the sun, in southern New Mexico on the pavement with no wind it's going to be hot enough for the needle to move a litte before you start the engine.
