Okay, so the other day when Dad was up visiting, he said the smoke on initial startup was blue. To me it looked a little bluish as you were looking into the sun. It does clear out once the truck is warm. Don't know how long it has had a blue tinge to it because most of the time it is dark and it looks like normal white smoke to me. What does the bluish color mean?
not oil entirely, if it even is oil. the AIH is designed to heat up the incoming air, to make a more complete combustion when the engine is cold. it cant make enough heat to make complete combustion, so the blue smoke you see is unburnt fuel. it is normal, and is because the engine isnt warm enough.

i was wondering the same thing strokin_it...reputation points right at ya buddy.
Yeah that is what I thought as well, most of the time I see the smoke it is dark out, and definately looks white like unburnt fuel. Just the other day it looked bluish when looking at it towards the sun. Not worried about it, as it goes away as soon as the truck is warmed up.
well technically speaking blue smoke does mean oil...just a common practice kinda thing but since it kinda looked more white then blue then yes im wrong at diagnosing it as oil...thanks for fixin my error there strokin it

Diesel fuel is an oil. You didn't mis-diagnose it, just over diagnosed it.
