1968 cab swap

I have a 1968 ford f-350 with a tow truck bed on it
The cab and all the front sheet metal is totally rusted out. I found a nice 76 parts truck with no rust. I have heard that 73-79 cabs will bolt in place of 67-72 cabs. But I have read many conflicting stories on this site. I know that i would have to use the 76 front clip as well, anyone here done this swap or know if it will or wil not work? What kind of fabrication will be necessary if any?? I have heard that 73-79 cabs are about 4 inches longer, and I have heard that 67-72 wheelbases are 4 inches shorter? which is the truth? I cannot have the cab hitting the bed, because I don't have a whole lot of room between the cab and the wrecker bed, nor do I have the room to move the box back 4 inches? I don't know what do do, and I don't want to take it apart and not be able to put the cab on, nor do I want to waste the money buying the parts truck if i cannot use the cab and clip.
