Could you take a 73-79 and put 67-72 sheet metal on it?
I've been very intestested in this for a long time. Could you take a 74 long bed and put fenders, doors, and grill from a 67-72 on it? I think the only problem would be the bed, becuase of the frame width difference. I have a couple of good 67-72 bodies in both short and long beds. I would be nice to take one the good bodies and put it on a rusted out 73-79 w/ power disk brakes/ AC/ power steering and so on. The only give away would be the interior, but I bet that dash could be swaped too if you really wanted to. If you were into a little metal work, you could do it w/ an extended cab and be really cool. Or you could go another step and find a 78-79 bronco and convert it to a 67-72. Again, you would have to do metal work on the attached "bed" since you couldn't swap on an older bed. I'm just not fond of the 73-79 style or I would just drive one. In fact I don't like the 70-72 grill so I have about three 67-69 grills saved up for swaping. No offence to you 70-79 guys, it is just my preference.

Have installed many 67-72 bodies on 73-79 chassis but interchanging panels will not work, even the hinge design of the doors is completely different, you can however use the 73-79 rad support with only minor mods. front cab mounts also bolt right up. I am looking for a 73-79 shorty 2wd chassis to bulid 66 shorty Stepside for my wife, she doesn't like fuel smell from in cab tank. Frame tank in 73-79 frame fixes that. Factory 67-72 4x4s are all gone here in Ontario but lots of 78/79s are still around.

I have seen a few threads started on this subject. I started researching swapping body work to a 73-9 crew cab swb and slamming it and really going custom crazy on it. to no avail as I don't have the tools talent or shop for that extensive of a body mod. it is a great idea though. I know someone did do that to a 75 bronco, looked great! like anything else.....if you put your mind to it and you have enough money, anything is possible.

So, from 68Mercury's experience, you can't swap doors or fenders, but you can swap a whole cab and front end on to a later truck (up to 79). The reason I was looking into it is so I could have AC in the dash. I guess if you did the cab and front end swap you would have a disk brake/ gas tank under bed 73-79 truck w/ a 67-72 body. I think down here in TX where there are plenty of rust free bodies, it would just be easier to swap disk brakes on to my exsisting 67-72 bodies and mount a fuel cell under the bed. It is good to know that you can use the rad support from a 73-79.

dablack: I have used a fuel tank out of a Superduty cab/chassis model and used a large fuel tank between frame rails but had to relocate crossmembers and reinforce the rear one.ranger240: I said front cab mounts and radsupport were bolt up. You may need to relocate rear cab mounts, but 67-72 are inside frame in a crossmember and 73-79 has crossmember in same location so all you need to do is measure and drill or cut the holes. Your bed mount holes are a different story.
presently I have 70 f100 body on 77f250 highboy chassis, 69 crewcab on 75 crewcabf250 highboy chassis. have assisted with 2 68 f100 body onto 78/79 f250 4x4 chassis . both these had body lifts so bed mount holes were no problem.
Sure wish I lived in Texas, I wouldn't have to store my toys in winter, they could be year round drivers!
