I think you guys will be quite pleased with the ceramic coated headers. What we are talking about is glass and it has a much higher temp tolerance than even powder coating. Should you melt the glass, it sort of anneals and forms back together. My neighbor has had a ceramic forge for over 10 years and it has never had issues. The only problem would be if one were to bang it with something and break the glass.
Jor, that's cause you are using the wrong port size gaskets. I had all those problems too until I figured out to get the same brand gaskets as the headers. Not a problem since, Check this out:
hedman statethat the paint is for rust prevention during storage and shipping only. It should be removed and repainted with high temp paint before use. I used Byson (not sure of the spelling) gaskets. Tfhey are approx. 3/16" thick and haven't leaked yet. They are used alot when standard gaskets keep leaking.
ya i think the $300 elites w/ matching heddman gaskets are the way to go...i don't want any lip from headers b/c i've already gone through 3 sets of manifold gaskets after having my manifolds planed! soooo annoying but as far as the headers getting me around 30-40 more horses...they can leak all they want!
I like the summit brand copper gaskets, which appear to be S.C.E gaskets. They were $28 but a couple of cheap sets will add up too. My problem is with the collector, ball and socket style, anyways my bolts always come loose, like 20 miles of driving. The loctite hasn't helped much but i have extended my mileage range before retightening.
Loctite won't do anything on hot headers dude! Try those 'bent' or 'squished' nuts that you have to impact on there. They won't come loose then. For added, do some lock washers too.
I tried the copper header gaskets from Summit, I found the ports to be too big. They would be great if they had smaller ports. The best I've found for Hedman headers is the headman header gaskets, as pictured above. Period.
