I want to put a 408w in my 77 F-150 4x4 and i have found heddman makes a hedder that will fit 77' 1/2 - 80' bronco with a 351w, will that fit my F-150 and are bronco front ends the same as F-150
i think bronco front ends are the same in those years, they are in the later years. i would think the headers hsould work too. if not exactly, you can make it work.
I would be careful with this. The 77 Bronco came with a 351M or 400. I am 99% sure that the 351M was not used in that vehicle. Remember that the Windsor heads and the Cleveland heads have different exhaust ports and mounting.
Yeah, i know but Hedman has a listing for 77 1/2' to 80' broncos with the 351m-400m, and a seperate listing for 77 1/2' to 80' broncos with the 351w. Its in a summit catalog i have, but who knows it could be a misprint, i do see two different part #s

Did you mean to say 351W? If the application on the headers lists 351W, then he should be O.K. Header manufacturers often make headers for vehicles with motors that weren't original, and sometimes they are a byproduct of a different application that winds up fitting other vehicles.

Reason: spelling
Yes I did mistype. I meant to say that the 351W was not used in that vehicle.
Having the correct headers for the engine swap is only one of the challenges that you will face putting a Windsor motor where an M was. To begin with, the bellhousing pattern is different.
For some reason, this whole time, I didn't realize he had said "want to put in". He will have to change the transmission or bellhousing from a big block bolt pattern to a small block. I must confess ignorance on what all that will entail in a 4x4.
Sounds like an easy swap then. The only things left is to make sure that you have the 351W accessory mounts and everything else is all set.
Sounds like a good swap since you already have everything set up for the engine/chassis combo. The 408 should make plenty of power. If you weren't already set up for this, building a strong 400 would have been a good choice. I built my 400 about 11 years ago before there were decent piston and head choices. Nowadays, however, you can build a really powerful 400 that has a really strong bottom end.
Yeah i have been looking at 400m's lately and people do cool things to them, but i sold my 86 lx coupe and now i was stuck with this 408 i was building for it, but it works out, with my alum. heads and intake i am saving alot of weight in the front and i should get good power out of it, i gave up on retro fitting a roller cam in it and im am thinking of going with a comp cams xtreme 4x4 cam with 270 duration and topping it with a holly truck avenger 770cfm
That's pretty close to what I'm planning to do with my 399 stroker- except I'm going with a budget cam that's 1/2 the price. I may give up a few HP, but I'm sure it'll make plenty of HP and torque. What intake are you running? I'm going with the Performer RPM.
