OK, so I've narrowed it down to two choices. Either Dynomax Cerama-Coat headers or Heddman Elite Hedders. Lot's of people have peen telling me that the Dynomax headers are crap, but they look really good with the coating on them. The Heddmans are made from a thicker material and also have a coating, but are more expensive. Who here has used either of these options? Did they fit well? Do the coatings last? I'm fine with forking out the extra cash for the Heddmans if I can feel confident that it's worth it. Thanks
Dynomax were a nightmare for me. Very bad fitment for my 69 F250 with the Bendix power steering gear and a C6 auto tranny.
The headers had to be severly dented to allow for the bendix, and they exhasted into the C6 linkage. For other trannies and steering arrangements they may work. Others here have had success.
They also had a lip where the primaries came through the flange that made them almost impossible to seal (I never got them to seal with a variety of gaskets). Mine are rusting away in the floor of my shop now.
I think the ceramic coating would have lasted if I didn't beat them up trying to install them. I am running ceramic coating on my FPA headers. A much much better header all the way around, but they come with a price.
Hated the Dynos-love the FPA. I ended up selling my ceramacoat Dynocrap things for $75.00, dented on drivers side, and unable to get port match enough to seal against my E Brock heads. Good Luck. Also tried Sandersons- sent them back. Ordered and using the FPA- 5500 miles and no discolor or anything to ceramacoat, still shiny as new.
Stock or EBrock Heads?
If stock you may get by. But the first thing you should do before you put them on, is put a good set of gaskets (ones that match your exhaust ports on the heads) on them and see if they Match. So many times the header ports are smaller. If EBrock heads-do yourself a favor and get the FPA.
I "had" the Headman headers. The install wasn't bad, but did have to jack-up the engine during the process. Also, the heat was so bad that I went through 3 starters in no time. I was also always having problems with them leaking.
The removal was easy...used a torch and cut them off! I couldn't recommend the Headman...Sorry.
I've researched the FPA's and they seem GREAT! Others are using them with good success. Looks like I found a quality header...the FPA.
where is the best place to get FPA headers? I found one w/ the cereamic coating for $559.
And whats better a ceramic coated header or a wrapped header as far as engine compartment temperature?
I'd go with a ceraimic coated, well I did go wth ceramic coated FPAs. Witout the ceramic coating and using a wrap would seeem lik a good way to incourage rusting. My 2 cents. You won't be dissapointed in the quality.
what is the collector size on the FPA's? I want to run dual 3" exhaust. Also, over 500 dollars for headers is going to kill me. By the way, I'm using stock heads. The Heddman headers are $300 as is , I mean what does a guy have to do to get a quality product?
Yup, Stans are the best in my book. Always best to leave them bubble wrapped untill after you get them in...otherwise you'll scratch the hell out of the finish...which really sucks if they are cermacoated. Which I recomend by the way.
