Question about towing package

Looks like I have another "dumb" question: I think I have seen this asked before, but can't seem to find the thread.

I have never seen an Excursion without a trailer hitch, do they all have the tow package? Looking at a 2003, has the hitch, but not the mirrors.

Thanks

Bill

There are two towing packages. One was offered as the 'standard' tow package that is in every Excursion made. it had:

Trailer Towing Package Content (standard)

7 pin wire harness and connector
Trailer brake wiring/feed kit
Class IV frame-mounted hitch reciever.

In addition, listed as optional on the Eddie Bauer and Limited is the:

4X4 Trailer Towing Group Content

Rear stabilizer bar
Manual telescoping trailer towing mirrors
clearance lights

The only difference is lights, sway bar, and mirrors. Go figure...

Thanks Housedad,

The mirrors and sway bar are the easy things to take care of.

You could not get the clearance lights in the X, ever. That was a misprint in the order guide.

All X's have the hitch because it is the rear "blocker beam". Ford doesn't want those little Beep-Beep cars giving your rear end a proctology exam.

Did auxilary coolers come with the packages? What about a 2000 model year limited with 5.4 motor and 2wd?

The sales book that I have is not specific about tow packages being dependant upon engine.

Explains why I've never seen an X with them.

I remember a couple of years ago, when that misprint first came out. Everyone was so excited.

The tow package had nothing to do with the engine. It was standard on every X. Like a said, the hitch is the rear blocker beam. Ford needed to put it on.
