Brian_B needs our assistance. He was asking for someone to copy this Overhaulin Overlord piece, which I have saved on Tivo to copy to vcr for him. However he needs one with closed captioning which I don't have, so mine will be picture only for him. Does anyone else have the capability to record with the closed captioning? I think knowing what is said on this show really adds to it. Anybody able to help with this? Joe
Joe was kind enough to offer to record it for me. This site has a great bunch of guys. I see things like this happening over and over around here.
Even without captioning it will be cool to see (over and over). I know how much is missed without the CC, but seeing it is much better than not at all.
Why would you need closed captioning? Isn't that the words printed on the bottom? Doesn't Brian's television/ VCR play in normal mode? I have closed captioning, however I don't know if it records that way because I've never tried it. I also believe the program itself has to be available in closed captioning? I have a copy of the show and he's welcome to it on VHS. Email me and let me know.
Your right, I had no idea and didn't read his post as you mentioned... Thanks for clearing that up Leckart. The show previews on Feb 2, I have closed captioning on my television, and will try to tape the show for Brian B using the closed captioning feature. Hopefully the show has closed captioning capability. If it comes out, I'll send a copy to Brian....
Let me try to explain a little better. I am 100% deaf. I have a cochlear implant so I can hear one-on-one mostly ok. Here is a pic of me and the implant:
Notice that nothing goes into my ear. My ear just holds up the processor.
As far as music, movies, TV, etc. Its all just annoying noise to me.
I do not have TLC to record anything. I am not even sure how to record something with the CC as part of it. The show is captioned. I have seen a few episodes at other peoples homes. Even my parents have TLC, but no way to record it.
I do not know if the captioning track is recorded just like normal or if it has to be turned on while recording. I have never tried it.
imlowr2: If you have it recorded now, pop the tape in, turn on the CC feature of your TV, and push play. It may very well have recorded the track the first time.
Either way...captioned or not, I would like to get a copy of it from someone.
Brian, I'm going to experiment with the closed caption feature and see what I can come up with. There is show tomorrow night which I can play around with. On February 2, they are showing the Overlord show and hopefully it will record in CC. If not, you'll get a copy of the show either way. Send me an email and let me know where I can send it. Ed
It is available in CC, I would think that if you enable the CC it will record that way. Our tv does not have CC, so my recording will be mute to Brian. But you will get it Brian, that is if you pm me your address. Joe
Joe and Brian, last night I tried my version of the show on VHS. I turned on the CC and it worked, however some of the letters look Russian???? The caption comes up, but in some cases it is difficult to follow by reading. Don't know why? I'm going to try and record it with the captions on and see if there is any difference. Brian, PM me also if you want a copy of the captioned version. Ed
If I remember correctly from my days back when you had to buy a seperate CC decoder ( I had a friend from high school who went deaf ), The CC info is stored between the frames of the video, so when you record a show that has CC you automatically record the CC data. So all you should have to do is turn on the CC on the TV or run the VCR video through a seperate CC decoder to view just like you normally would when watching in real time.
The Closed Caption track should record on a VHS tape automatically. We use it occasionally to decipher conversations on some of the programs that we watch. It is displayed via options on the TV not on the VCR.

Brian, looks like mine might have it after all. I will copy tonite, mail tomorrow. If Ed sends one also, maybe one will have CC. If both do, you will have backup for when you wear one out. Joe
