So last night, my favorite band was playing at "our" bar. so 4 of us jump in my new truck ( which doesnt have license plates yet ) and have to stop at a gas station. im sitting in the truck, the ONLY vehicle in the parking lot. i thought it was interesting when a squad car slowly drove through the parking lot.
We leave, im doing 50MPH in a 45MPH zone. a 1/4 mile ahead is a 35 zone. another squad car whips a u-turn as i pass it, flips on the lights, naturally i throw on my seat belt and -slowed down- to 35 BEFORE the 35MPH zone.
pull over. cop approaches window- "how fast were you going when you entered the 35 zone" ( note the "when you entered part ) me " i was doing 50 in the 45, and slowed down before the 35 zone" she goes back to her car. 10 minutes later comes back, gives me a warning for speeding and now i have to send in my proof of insurance cause i forgot to put it in the new truck.
1) im thankful i didnt get a speeding ticket, since i havent had one in 3 1/2 years
2) me and my 3 friends didnt feel like the circumstances were reason enough to even pull me over-
BUT...... i kinda feel like i was targeted because i didnt have plates on the truck yet-
"hey, lets get that young guy with the new truck, use the "didnt see a rear plate" excuse and hope we can bust him for something"
3) and in honor of my "not drinking" for the new years i only had 2 beers last night
I'm not familiar with the laws where you are, but in Massachusetts, driving a vehicle without plates is plenty reason enough to get pulled over. If you didn't have proof of insurance, you'd be walking home, while your shiny new truck was dragged off on the end of a wrecker.
1. pick-up without license plates leaves bar. ( Key word - BAR )
2. no license plates ... second reason for suspicion of possible stolen vehicle or...?
3. Admission of doing 50 in a 45. When the sign says 45, do you think it means it's ok to do 50? I'd pull you over also, just for that, if for no other reason.
Too many people we see every day, look at the speed limit and figure that if it says 70..that means I can do 80 and get away with it. That's what is typically called an "ERROR IN THINKING".
Be very thankful you only got a warning, rather than a ticket and an insurance increase.
I am not sure how the whole plates stuff works there, but here if you have no plates, you get your ride towed away immediatly! Also they dont like it here if you put any old plates on, they have to be specifically for that vehicle, trust me, I have tried! haha

***** correction, i was leaving the GAS STATION *****

*****had the 21 day permit in the rear window*******

****** 5MPH over is pretty much the accepted amount here. the issue there is, they tried to say i was still doing 50 in a 35 zone, when i WASNT EVEN IN THE 35 ZONE yet. ****

****im re-typing details already in my original post.****

10miles an hour or less over the speed limit does not go on your record here and are usually dropped in court.
pull over. cop approaches window- "how fast were you going when you entered the 35 zone"
if a cop asks you how fast you where going that usually means he/she doesnt know how fast you where going and is trying to get you to admit you where speeding
I stand corrected about the bar thing. But I guess your assumption (that's what I take your complaint as) is right. The cops are only out to ruin our nights out. Sorry I blew up.

no problem. if i seemed bitter about the subject, its cause i am. when i was 17/18 i had a new dodge ram, lifted big tires exhaust etc etc... everytime i went anywhere with 3-4 people in the truck at night i got pulled over, removed from the truck, searched, given the 20 questions, "oh, whats this, daddys truck" rude comments like that.
the police just saw a 17 year old kid with a shaved head driving a really nice brand new truck and assumed i either stole it or sold drugs. what they didnt know, was after a full day of highschool i also put in 55 hours of work every week to afford that truck at that age.
even last summer... with my white F350 i pulled into my families small town... my cousin over heard the new cop say to the other cop "hey whos the young guy with the shaved head and tattoos driving the white truck through town" to which my cousin replied "thats my cousin, hes ok"
i just think it sucks that a person can get harrassed, *possibly* just for havign a nice vehicle
I know in some small towns I have lived in, they would just harrass ya because you were young, no rhyme or reason to it. When I was 19 years old, one cop would pull me over just about every day. Finally One day I got sick of it and asked him, in not polite words, if he wanted to duke it out and get his grudge against me delt with. Long story short, the pudgy cop couldnt handle me, got two black eyes, and his partner laughed at him for getting his *** kicked by a 19 year old! Good thing he didnt know I was training myself in boxing back then, and know how to fight
Where did you get the new truck? IF it was from a dealer shouldn't it have had a temp tag in the rear window?
Also, I've had an officer pull me over because there was a report of a "similar rig out doing drugs the other night." and everbody around my town know there is only one truck like mine, how many white '93 F-150s have a loud exhaust, KCs no tailgate and a winch sticking out of the front?
FordLover, you can't tell me you have NEVER gone five over the limit EVER in you time driving, I have, I've also gone double the speed limit, so I'm not going to turn around and lecture (for lack of a better word) somebody doing the same.
i had the yellow 21-day permit in the rear window, but, with tinted windows i can see the police saying "oh, i couldnt see it"
and when i was 16 i got pulled over for "reports of a susicious vehicle" i said, whats the description" " a 4 door sedan" great. no, they pulled me over cause they could tell i was 16 and out an hour past curfew, lost in an area i didnt know my way around. its your word against theirs ya know?
BuiltToughF250, I know where you are coming from. I was pulled over in my old F250 because I supposedly had no plates. At the time I had a 18K plate, which they only give you a front plate. The officer followed me out of a gas station, onto the interstate and followed me for 10 miles before pulling me over for having no license plates. When told him I currently have only one plate he had to walk to the front of the truck and verify, he looked pissed. He gave me a verbal warning for have a vanity plate on the back.
The thread isn't about me or my complaints about being pulled over. And if I decided I was going to go faster than the speed limit, I DID! And..the ONE and ONLY ticket I've ever gotten in my life..I deserved...paid my fine..and fortunately never got caught at again. Check my photo gallery for my Falcon ... you don't have a hot rod and not hot rod it.
My point being .... if yer gonna sing the blues, ya gotta pay yer dues. And I still stand on the fact..if I were a cop and saw someone doing what appeared faster than the speed limit, I'd pull them over .. especially if there were no license plates....even if it were a 70 year old woman driving. ( With or without tattoos...and by the way..I probably have more tattoos on my back than most of you here have on your entire body..so let's not go there.)
I will say, however, that in this day and age, with so MANY young and old folks who, regardless of their appearance, are law breakers. There is a "WANTED" list out there longer than your arm. Some of those wanted are dangerous felons, who may happen to look like your average person..or your average person with a shaved head. It's unfortunate that police need or do use "profiling" techniques...but IMHO, it's a necessary evil that if there were more honest and honorable people, the technique might not be needed.
And yes .. it's true that some cops ARE jerks. They come in all fields of work and in all colors. Next flame please.

Nice! It's a special technique used to determine real criminals from real people, while the meth smuggler drives by watching you get a warning ticket. Ah, tax money well spent!
