Is anyone using ethenol gas in their ranger? Do you have to do anything to the truck? I know my truck is a flex fuel truck. Are there any advantages to using ethenol. Does it perform the same?
Just make sure you get the old gas out. You lose some performance and it won't run the same, it's timed for regular unleaded. Not worth it in my opinion to switch.

Not true! A FFV is designed to run E85 fuel. This is a fuel with 85% ethanol, and it will mix with gasoline. E85 is higher octane than "regular unleaded", but
your gas mileage will go down.

Maybe you meant to say you lose a little gas mileage. Performance remains the same.
Like Bob indicated, there is no need to get the old gas out. A FFV is designed to run on up to 85% ethanol, which means that it will run the same at 1% as it does at 85%. On a FFV vehicle, there is an additional sensor incorporated into the EEC system which provides a frequencly signal to the PCM based on the amount of alcohol in the fuel. Adjustments to timing and air/fuel ratios are made accordingly.
I have ran 89 octane ethanol in my Ranger since i got it new in '98. Here in iowa its usually about a dime a gallon cheaper. I still average 18 mpg and havent had any kind of propblems related to it...just my 2 cents
