Current generation 2.3l oil capacity?

My manual says 4.0 quarts, but does that include a full filter?

For an oil change should I buy 4 or 5 quarts?

Always buy extra. Just in case. Buy 5. It's one of those things you don't wanna get stuck at the house without (trust me...the rear diff takes three...but getting it all in there will require at least five).

I usually add 5 quarts to my truck when I change the oil. this includes filter. better to have a little too much than not enough oil.

I usually put in about half a quart below what the manual says, start it up and let it run for a minute or so, then top it off until its about 3/4 of the way into the "safe" area.

Too much oil can be just as bad as not having enough. The crankshaft can whip it up into a foam, and the oil pump has a hard time pumping foamed oil. Not to mention it robs you a couple of horsepower and some fuel economy.
