I located 1 C2AE rod from J. Mummert to complete the partial set of 7. With the rods soon in hand and a good 292 crank on the shelf, the restoration to normal compression of my motor can begin. It was built with 312 rods, leaving the pistons far below deck, resulting in a compression of 7.2. Since money is always an issue, plan to have the crank done first. Then rods. Then buy bearings and rings. Lastly tear it down, take everything back for balancing and begin the put together. Maybe the deck should be surfaced also to allow use of a steel head gasket. It seems like a long road.
There was a 312 crank on e-bay recently that I bid on, but after more thought decided my real objective was a 292 with normal compression, not a stroked 292. The motor is running like a sewing machine now and sounds the same. Can only imagine what it will do with a compression of 8.5.
Glad you located one. I had looked in my pile earlier but nothing. All I had went into the 54 F350 engine as that was originally a HD292 from a 64 F600
286, didnt I see one of your posts regarding you stroking a 292 for a nostalgia race motor? What are some of your plans, if so.
Yes I am. Going to turn the 312 crank down to 292 mains as it is reportedly stronger that way.
The rest will be pretty much following along with Mummert, Eaton and others who have been racing the Y.
-G heads milled as much as I can plus porting and chamber work, roller rockers, bored to the limit of sonic testing, big cam, Blue Thunder intake with Demon carb. Built C4 with FlatoMatic kit. Volvo 8.8 rear with either 3.73 or 4.10 lockers and discs. All going in a 31 roadster Altered with as little weight as possible. Still need to get the new rule books for AHRA and NHRA to see what I HAVE to have. See no reason it cant get easily into the 10's after some tweaking. Others are into the 9's already with similar.
