Okay I was changing the Air Filter today on my 2001 Navigator and just noticed this piece was unplugged and had electrical tape all over it, seems that the Mechanics at Lincoln put tape for a reason but for what I dont know, anyways I removed the tape and plugged it back in and didnt notice and difference, should I take it back off and tape it back up again ? and what exactly is this ?
There is a recall on the cruise control deactivation switch. They were causing fires in some instances when the switch failed. What you see is a temporary fix until the repair kit could be installed. If you take it back to your dealer they will install a fuse and reconnect the switch. The switch is a backup device to disable the cruise control when the brake pedal switch does not work for some reason. That is why you don't see any difference in the operation of the vehicle with it plugged in or not.

What James said, unplug it and retape it, the dealer probably didn't have the parts to fix it when they disconnected it. Evidently that switch is hot all the time, and if it happens to leak ,can cause the loss of the vehicle, and if its in your garage....
ok thanks guys you all are great, I will call Ford and have them fix it.
Good Luck, the last recall letter I got said parts would be available in February 2006. That's after they originally said parts would be available in November 2005.
I just called Ford about an hour ago and they scheduled me for this monday so I am assuming that have have this part, are there any other recalls that I need to be aware of ?
I'm kinda confused why they didn't tell you about disconnecting the cruise control, anyhow make sure to talk to the service manager, ask him if there are outstanding issues
Im going to talk to the service manager to find out anymore issues and i'll post it all here when I get back, does anyont know if this is going to be a long operation ?
okay so I took my Nav to Ford which was the nearest instead of Lincoln-Mercury which was 20 miles away. Anyways they got it fixed within 15 mins, they were kind enough to let me watch while it was done, now heres the kicker, while working on this they blew a fuse or something where my all the lights wouldnt work, no big deal so they fixed it, but I noticed that the door lights dont turn on when the door is open, both left and right side, they spent 4 hours tracing the problem, then told me to take the vehicle to Lincoln and have it fixed there since they "claim" that the wiring is totally different from an expedition and just bring back a reciept and they will reimburse me. This ticked me off and I started to turn into the incredible hulk, so to calm me down they decided to fix it themselves and now I gotta take it back on Friday to get the damn thing fixed, any suggestions on what broke ?
From what a friend said the wire attached to the plug is constantly hot, and is for the cruise control. His expedition was part of the recall. The membrane was breaking down and shorting the switch and applying power even with the damn thing off and in the garage and Ford was notified of them bursting into flames while off and put away in the garage. Again just passing what i heard.
