Okay next question my idm went out in my truck. I've heard that when I replace it I have to have it flashed for my truck since it has a security system for it to recognize the new idm. Is this true? Will it not start if I just replace it and not get it flashed?
2001 built in 12/00 having accelerator pedal issues
ok so what happens to my truck as of the past few weeks is i start it up and it starts totally fine, idles perfect, it will warm up to the normal spot on the temp gauge and if i touch the accelerator pedal at all it dies (whether its warmed up or not). I then have massive trouble restarting the truck. it will turn over forever before it fires off and then i have to hold the pedal down half way till it stops stumbling and then the truck is fine the rest of the day till i let it sit for like 8 to 10 hours. NO check engine light unless the idle is wicked lopey after i get it started again which i would just rev it way up and it would smooth out, that is no the case anymore its just rough at any rpm and dies as soon as i take my foot off the pedal.
i have the accelerator pedal sensor and the idle validation switch combined into one sensor post 10/2000 manufactured date.
I just tried to replace it tonight with a dorman 699-203 pedal assembly and the check engine light comes on. its worse than the oem ford unit that I suspected to be mal functioning after doing a little research online. the truck wont start or even rev up with this dorman unit. i have ordered another one amazon and returned the dorman unit.
Im curious if there could be anything else wrong here? I also put in a brand new cps tonight and it didnt help. I had un plugged the batteries while i went to autozone to get the new cps and tested that first to see if a computer reset would help. well obviously it didnt cuz im on here asking for advice.
You problem is out of my wheelhouse but...OEM only for things like TPS, CPS and other sensors for our trucks. Others just don't seem to work right. If you don't have a way to read your sensors it would be advisable (and isn't too costly) for solving this and future problems.
Having the same problem as MinutemanCO. Did anyone ever figure out what the solution is.
I have already had a new Accelerator Assembly & new Throttle Position Sensor.
Stop at an intersection and suddenly no throttle. Stomp the pedal to the floor several times & it comes back in 5-10 seconds.
This has been going on since May 30, this year.
What's the solution?
[QUOTE=SpringerPop;18099364]Again, this symptom sounds like a sticky idle validation switch. It could also be the wiring thereto.
I'm not well versed in mechanics, but Isn't the Idle Validation Switch in the Accelerator Assembly? I've already replaced the Accelerator Assembly.
Thanks for your help!

It is. Did you inspect the wiring to make sure it isn't damaged or crimped behind the assembly?
I have a 2002 f350 with a 7.3l. My truck started throwing a p0221 code everytime i went to hit the throttle and had no throttle response. I replaced the pedal with a ford oem pedal. I still had the same problem. I replaced it again and it still cuts out but alot better than before. Its only seems to cut out when the truck is in gear. Would there be something else causing this problem? The check engine light only comes on when i use the throttle than goes back off when i let off the throttle.
I FINALLY found a mechanic that stuck with it and found the problem. Unfortunately, I won't be able to be very detailed as to what wire it was.
It was at a junction, and will only show on test when the truck is running. It was a relay of some sort and once it got hot, it was 'shorting' out.
He replaced about 4" of wire and I haven't had the issue since.
It took 6 trips to the shop and at last a mechanic that just wouldn't quit.
If you need more detail about where/what this relay junction is, let me know. I can give him a call.
Update** i replaced the pedal and clean all the connectors from body to motor under hood and the pedal started working again. I was able to drive it all night but on the way to work today i lost throttle again and threw the same p0221 code. Any ideas on what else it could be?

I am having the same problem, changed the assembly. PLEASE find out what and where before I lose my job!
My 99 F350 4x4 auto has started giving me a dead pedal with ses light and flashing od light. Put new CPS and PCM. Still an issue. I've read about the pedal assembly and what not, but some one I know said theirs was just a wire/ wires behind the guage cluster on top of or in general area of the top of steering column.
Actual Fix Ahhh Haaa...Son of Bit_h.. Ford Motor Comapny ****ting the bed again. Biapassed for the sake of better soldering.
. Check the loom laying on top of the drivers side shock. Funny place to put a open wire loom!!! Easy to access it anyway. Of the 4 looms its the closest to the air box. In my case small gauge wire Lt grey/white (looks darker dirty), Orange with black stripe (fuel pump circuit) When the grey wire gounded it would kill the pedal, and the orange would pop the 20 amp fuse (#40) Moisture was usually a factor. Easy to bush fix to get home to a warm shop and cold beer. The damage is close to the plug leaving little room for soldering so I bi-passed the plug with some extra wire, soldered and shrink sleaved. Done Diddly!
