My pass side window in the 98 rolls down unusally slow. What do I need to do to speed it up? After 2 1/2 years it's finally bothered me enough to fix it. Thanks
I've got the exact same problem with my passenger-side power window. Also a 98 F150 XLT. I'm assuming that the lowering mechanism is either gummed up or that the motor itself is dying.
Got a bunch of things on the To Do list but one of them is to pull the interior door trim off and see what's actually going on.
If the mechanism is dirty then a little work with an old toothbrush and the appropriate lubricant should take care of it. If the motor is dying then it should be straightforward to replace ($40+ for a new one). When I get done I'll post what it was.
you should hear it working very hard also. good way to burn up the motor.--- take the door panel off (plastic), spray lube onto the sizzor arms and pins that run the window up and down. spray or grease the rollers and slide front to back. run the window up and down with the panel off and test. probably just a lot of dragging. had the same thing in mine.
Yes, it is working very hard to roll it up or down. I will take a look at it tomorrow after school and lube it up. Any certain stuff I need to use? I will definitly post back up after I take a look. Thanks
I'm glad you brought that up. My truck is a 98 Lariat and I've always had the problem since I bought the truck. Just chose to ignore it though, oops. It'll be interesting to see if the solution works. If it does I'll be sure to try it when it gets warmer here. Thanks again.
Got er done. It made quite a difference and I only put some silicone on the tracks. Best $5 I've spent on this pickup. The motor doesn't work nearly as hard now. I actually did both windows after I saw what a difference it made on the one. Thanks again guys!!!
My 99 XLT does the same, the automatic button also stopped working, but there are more important things to fix! Someone once wrote "K.I.S.S," keep it simple stupid. Manual stuff (Manual 4wd shifter, manual transmission and manual roll-up windows) last longer and are way way way cheaper to fix them if they brake. Just my $0.02.
i can get it off in about 10 minutes, not that hard. thre are 4-5 screws, its ben awhile, but i think there were 2-3 across the bottom of the panel that are easily visible, then you pop off the plastic disc around the door handle, and maybe pry up the electric window switch panel that is several inches long. i think you see 2-3 more screws- hex head inside those two areas. about 5/16 heads, maybe 8 mm. after the screws are all out, push the panel up an inch then pull out. it has plastic ears that slide "down" into holes, not the old round helicoil plastic clips.
