Im sure you've all heard this before but i dont know whats going on. My 2000 f-150 shudders while in drive, 1, 2, and reverse, but not in neutral or park. im sure i wont be able to fix it but i want to at least get a clue. this includes both when the truck is moving or when its stationary
Does it feel like its coming from the transmission, kind of like a rumble? You also stated that it does it while its not moving. Or is it like an engine hesitation??
i notice it the most when driving at a constant low acceleration. the shudder is a bit more faint when in any of the drive modes while stopped. but once in park or neutral its gone.
I guess its time to go to the ford service station
I have 1998 with 90,000+ miles and was getting that shudder similar to yours, I also noticed mine going up hills more and more frequently. I just had transmission flushed, refilled, and shudder is gone!!!
I have the same problem with my '01 F150 5.4L w/ 97k miles except that it didn't start to happen until AFTER I changed the transmission fluid. I replaced the filter, used Valvoline Mercon V and it shudders like it's going over a bad set of railroad tracks.
I checked the three ignition coils that I could easily reach to make sure it wasn't a misfire. But there is no way a misfire would cause the truck to shake this bad. Any ideas?
I have a 2001 4.6l f150 and i have the same problem as you stated. usually after shifting into high gear and very mild acceleration. I have taken my f150 to the dealership 3 times and they can't seem to reproduce the misfire or whatever seems to happen betweeen 40-50 mph. I only happens under a load and moderate to mild acceleration. It also only occurs when shifting into the overdrive gear. If you acclerate hard it goes away when you pass 1500 rpm. I tried to take it in to the dealer and on the way a plug and coil went out(this really made the problem consistent). The error code came up and they thought they fixed the problem but it still is not right -but it is a little better. It is really frustrating i wonder if changing all of the plugs might help? coils too? I only have 75000 miles on this engine and it really makes me mad that the ford dealer can't figure it out. This has been going on for 1.5 years! I have already had the trans flushed. I think it is something else but there are no error codes

I would just swap all the COP's and plugs at one time and I bet that the problem will be gone. Check Ebay, for the COP's. I got 8 of them shipped for $110 and I bought the plugs online for $25 shipped as well.
thanks, I think this may be the problem. By the way, I made the service tech hook his computer up and go for a ride with me. Of course I couldn't force the truck to do its usual crap. I think it was because the area was pretty flat and there was no place to put a load on the truck(hills). anyway his computer showed that #1 was misfiring just a little but that was it.
