The metal bracket that holds the sensor is on the outside of the sensor and wouldn't affect the depth of the sensor. I have tried sanding/grinding down the plastic lip of the sensor (where it bottoms out on the front cover) It was much harder to do and wasn't as accurate/neat of a job. Also when the cam sensor that you ground down fails you will have to do the job all over again. Once the front cover is ground down it should be good for life.
That would be true, if all the plastic molded sensors are exactly the same length. Then if you had to replace the cps again on the same engine and the sensor was too long, you have to shim it to proper specs, right?
I wonder how Cleatus is making out with his signal measurements of the blue CPS this weekend...hmmmmm...can't wait to see his data...should be informative.

Who sees your reputation?
Also Im totally lost on this cps thing. I was thinking it was a plug and play thing, I was going to get one, but now Im leaning toward a black one just to be on the safe side. I dont know about cutting and all that stuff

It is plug and play(lube the o ring before install)...just takes about 10+ minutes
on your back with a 10mm socket and sometimes a screwdriver to pop it out easier. My first one ran great for almost 3 weeks.
"Who sees your reputation?"
Not sure.... probably the administrators...in case someone does some bad posting?

Thanks, but what the heck are these guys talking about with air clearance and cutting stuff? They made it sound like the blue one needed to be modified or something.

As the clearance of the Hall effect sensor(CPS) changes the signal strength changes too. It appears that the clearance(between sensor body and camshaft wheel) AND the magnetic field strength have an effect on signal quality.
I posted a good picture of this CPS on the IHC "Blue" CPS thread.

that little green dot next to your post count is your reputation. the one dot is for 0-100 points, and two is 101-200, etc. to see your reputation, go to user CP, and scroll down. it is below your suscribed threads.

Thanks, I see I have one I have some work to do to get another dot LOL
Everyone sees your rep. They are the little green squares next to your posting number. The more green squares you got, the more rep points you got. Not that it really matters, it just means that person is knowledgable or well liked (friendly) on the board.
I was at International Truck Parts Dept. today and I looked at the two CPS side by side.
The T466 Blue comes with 2 round brass shim washers and one extra O-Ring with an instruction sheet on the installation.
The one for the T444 # 1876736C91 came in the International box with no shims or the extra O-Ring and no instruction sheet for the install. The Shims are very thin brass and must do something. But why don't they sell them all with the shims? The color of the T444 unit is a very dark blue with the purple O-Ring. It almost looks black in low light.
So when I talked to the Techs at International they said they would need to set the gap and adjust the CPS install. It's 100.00 minimum charge per hour.
But, if the tech at Ford just slaps it in and does not measure any gap, you get a new unit improperly installed. They should check the air gap on your cam sensors. .025 - .030 is the spec. The Tech just slaps in the new one in 2 minutes and that's it.
I believe many problems are improper installs, no shims or gap testing.
