The last time I saw that Bay bridge I was passing under it while on a Troop ship, returning from Korea, and that's the last I ever intend to see of that place.
There are toll roads in IL when you get closer to Chicago. You can put an electronic (tracking?) device on your windshield and pass through the toll-booth without slowing down.
If you have one the toll is one price (I don't go up there so I don't know the cost). If you don't have the electronic device, the toll is substantially higher.
Here in oklahoma you can get a "pikepass" for a monthly fee plus tolls...i think you get a discount on the tolls though....you put the little garage door looking box on your windshield, and then you can drive through the pikepass lanes and an overhead scanner detects your box....handy if you need to use the turnpikes alot, but personally i dont have a use for one....
To drive from Maine to Massachusetts (280 miles) I pay $3.95, the same going the other way. Tolls start to add up towards Boston, and I think you pay at least $5, maybe a bit more to drive into the airport in Boston. They really start socking it to you as you get close to it.
Only one toll bridge around my area. $1 to get across one way and free to get across the other way. One second thought, there are two but the other one was never taking tolls all the times I passed.

Hmmmm....
For regular vehicles its .80 without the IPass .40 with. I know my dad with his F150 and a single axle trailer costs about 1.75 no matter what each time.
Semi-trucks are about $4 a toll. It's a lot of money.
I just drove from Chicago to Tampa, and the only traffic I experienced both ways was once I entered the Illinos Tollroad. You think that if we are paying so much to drive on it, traffic wouldn't be so much
i flew into JFK and had to drive to TN, jeez!! enough tolls through DEL and NJ? is there any free roads there? my wife being from russia was quite surprised and thought it was funny paying for roads. at least here in TN we don't have any....yet! heading to florida tomorrow, going to love that turnpike!
