I have a 01 expy and the drivers side door lock will no lock or unlock with the door shut. if i open it up just abit it starts to work. i wiggled the wires going from the body through the door and it seems to help it . i think maybe a bad wire or maybe a bad connection.. anyone had this weird problem? thanks kenny
I've not had this problem on a ford truck but I did on a 1990 Topaz. Must have broken four wires in the harness between the chasis and door over the yrs. Youll have to take the upholstry off the door. Find the door lock actuator motor---trace them to the switch---note the wire colors to that switch (best to have a wiring diagram). What I have done is find them (probably two wires) under the dash. I have cut one and then spliced a new 16ga wire to the source and strung it into the door---not through the hinge conduit--just run it from the dash to the motor or switch as a test--you might have to splice it into the motor or switch--or put a spade lug on the end if you can then attach it to the motor. Operate it for a few days---if it works then you have found the wire. If not---put the original wire back together and solder and tape it well. then do the other wire---most certainly it will be this wire.
Once you determine which wire it is. Take TWO new wires---attach them to the end of the cut bad wire under the dash and pull the two new wires through the door conduit into the door and splice that wire into the switch or motor. Solder and tape the end under the dash.
Why pull two wires through---because in my case more wires fail--if another fails it is faster/simpler if a new wire is there ready to splice in! YOu must pull the new wires through with the old wires---I was never able to push or string a new wire through that door conduit unless I pulled it through.
Hope this helps you--it's not all that difficult--just takes some time. And costs little or no money.
