I need help please!!!!!!
I put a new door on my vehicle, the door was from a year older vehicle. So I replaced the wiring, striker latch and lock cylinder from my old door. When I hook up the battery the power locks keep cycling on all the doors. the locks just lock the door, and just keep on locking the doors. I checked everything I did and everything looks right. Any ideas would greatly be appreciated
It's a 97 Ford Taurus GL with power locks, power windows, no key fob, but a Ford dealer installed alarm w/key fob. I disconnected the "alarm" and still have the locks locking continuiously.
More info: I got hit by a deer last week. It hit the left front fender and left front door. I found a door off a 96 Sable. So I took the wiring, key cylinder, striker latch off my door. The latch striker had an extra electrical connector on it is the reason I replaced it. After I installed the door and had everything connected and hooked up the battery is when this started. I've disconnected the door and still does it. I disconnected the Ford Dealer "alarm" and still does it.
The only thing I can think of is there is something wrong with the added on wiring of the alarm system. Most Ford vehicles require added on relays when an aftermarket system is installed. That's because Ford locks are actually little motors, and the polarity is reversed to the motor to make it lock or unlock. Most alarm systems only send a pulse signal to lock the doors, so you have to send this signal to some relays which do the actual polarity swapping for the Ford locks.
The only thing I can think of is to dig around and find these relays if the exist. See what the wiring looks like, and if the relays are clicking continuously.
