Ya I got tired of getting my belly all scratched up, having the bucket kick out from under my feet. It works good.
Or even worse, have the bucked bottom bust out and have your leg get shreaded up by the plastic pieces.......then you have to pull your leg back out of the bucket.....not that I have done that before .......LOL....
Oh wow... nice idea! I've gotta try that... my knees start to hurt after kneeling on that freakin' grill and radiator support for awhile (imagine how changing the GP's felt). It sure beats the expensive stand in the Northern catalog... I think I even have that stuff lying around here too! Reps to the OP...
W.A. Ranger, I hear ya about the tires... being a short guy, I stand on my tires ALL the time! They're not as big as yours, but still do the trick!
Did not think of the "lumber" application, but had some galvanized stair treads x 4' and attached some 1/2" rebar to it after bending the rebar with a hook on one end that fits up and over the tow hook into that small hole. The lower end is attached to the stair tread. I made the rebar length (or height) such that my 6'-3" body is comfy while working on top of the motor.
My buddy has an Excursion and has borrowed the step once - says he's gotta build him one.

Now that is a "Super Duty" step if I ever heard one. BTW I am originally from Dayton but my family lives there in Chattanooga and the ARCA race team we work with is there in Soddy Daisy just before the lake!!
That's a great idea. Worked under the hood of my 2000 X today from a step ladder. Gonna make one of these for sure.
Had the X for a few years . Never needed much work. No money for mods until now.
Planning on keeping the old girl around and want to do as much work myself as I can. Have been reading a lot on the forums. I have learned a lot and will be posting in the X King or SUV forum as I get things done.

Craven this is a very ingenious work platform you thought of here...What I do like about it that it will fit in my toolbox in my truck bed. that way if somethen should go awry on the road I'm ready to go and get a leg up...It's definitly on the list of things to do...Reps on the way bud!!!
