I'm no lite weight myself and I thought about that. The board I used is actually a piece of OSHA stamped scaffold plank. You could always run a 4x4 under it.

I think a couple of pieces of 1" angle iron under the bottom would provide plenty of strength, and have less weight and bulk than a 4x4 post. Get some counter sink bolts to mount through the top, and you'll still have a flush surface to stand or or put some grip tape onto.
I wasn't worried so much about the board, but the 1 1/2" worth of lag threads stripping out.
That's why I got the heavy duty hangers, they have some very healthy threads on them. But you could always run them through and weld a washer on the end or use some sort of jam nut with a washer, if you don't have a welder handy.

Only thing is what about those times u need side access.
WA...u could probably put some side swivel planks on each end then prop them on those humungous tires of yours. Don't forget the no skid surface!

And you can cut it the right length and use it to slip into the slots in the bed to make a bed divider out of it when you are not using it.,.I love mine!!
