Is there a diagnostic trouble code scanner that I can get for my 1988 F150? I was told recently that the connection under the hood for the scan had to be changed to an upgraded connection due to the trucks age? is this crap?
if there is a hand-held diagnostic code scanner, what am I looking for?
anybody know about this??
There's a code reader that you can pick up almost anywhere and fits in your watch pocket on your jeans. It's a paperclip. In that year all you do to check codes it short two wires and they blink out. go www.fordfuelinjection.com here is an article detailing how to do it. In the article over there at fordfuelinjection it fails to mention the beginning of the test. The way the computer works is this, when you start the test, it will blink rapidly, then it will blink either 3, 4, or 5 times. 3 indicates a 6cyl, 4 an8, and 5 a diesel. Then the codes will start.
Walmart and Autozone both carry them for $25. You just plug it into both connections, turn the key, and hit TEST. Then you look up the codes in the book that comes with it. Or save your $25 to put towards whatever part you're going to need after you read the codes with a paperclip.
