Ford Industrial engine

Hi All
All the numbers say I have a 1972 industrial engine in my 1977 F-150 4X4.
Can someone tell me what an industrial engine was used for, it's a 302 4B.or where to go to get some info on it

Thanks

Well, an industrial engine is probably any engine that was not originally intended to be used on the highway. For example, I am not a farmer, but I live on a farm. My brother is a farmer and I help him out a lot in my spare time. He has several New Holland combine harvesters that have Ford engines in them. His most recent combine purchase has an industrial Ford diesel engine in it. AFAIK, this engine was never used in a highway vehicle. Also, if you go to a Ford car dealer, you cannot get parts for this motor even if you have the Ford part number. (I've tried) His combine that he had before this one used a Ford industrial diesel engine that was built in Great Britain. That was hard to gets parts for also. Before that motor, his previous combine had a 391 Ford industrial motor that was similar to, but slightly different that a regular 390 motor. (Steel crank I know for sure) Years ago, a lot of boats used the 302 Ford industrial engine. Pretty much the same as a car engine, but slightly different. The Ford industrial 302 was also used on stationary irrigation pumps.
In your case, probably most of the parts are the same as a regular 302, but it's possible it will have some areas that are different, possibly the crankshaft or the valve train.

Exclamation

And the waterpump, carb, and just about everything else.

For parts try Ford power pruducts 1-800-750-1776 or EC power 1-800-833-4773

Thanks for the info i just returned from the autoparts. We matched up cap, points, rotor, capacitor, etc. It appears that this engine is a marine engine. I checked the firing order before i pulled the cap and wires. The firing order is 13726548 (and it's on the valve cover) which tells me that it is either a 351 or 400 not a 302.
So i think i have a 1972 marine 351 or 400. What should the plugs and points be set at.
Any help is appreciated

I'd set them for what your manual calls for on a '72 Ford. I realize that you already bought them, but I'd do away with the points and install an aftermarket electronic ignition kit from Pertronix, Crane or Mallory, all available for under $80 from the speed catalogs. YMMV.

I believe the Boss 302 had the same firing order as the 351.-P.

That firing order doesn't tell you whether or not it's a 302.

I'd say the best way to identify this would be to get the casting numbers off the block.

i hate to break it to you but ford only had one industrial engine during that time. It was the FT series. that was the 330 , 331 , 359 , 361 , 389 an 391. what you have is just a normal engine in there. what makes you think it was a industrial engine?

All those numbers are from easily swapped parts. You really want the casting number from the block. On a 302 or 351W it's under the starter.

The later 302's and 302HO's used the 351 firing order. A firing order can be changed - it tells you nothing.

You need the #'s off the block to be certain.
