This seems to be the case with most Excursion owners I ask. Mine "kind of" heat up. I have hooked mine up to the remote start so the seats are a little warm.
aklim, it depends on what year Ex you have. If I remember correctly, up through the 2002 model year, the heater element is molded right into the cushion. In order to repair it, you need to buy a new cushion at between $50 and $70. Beginning in 2003, the heater element is seperate from the cushion, and can be replaced for much less money. I might have the year of change off by one, but that's the story.
I have a 03 F-250 that the dealer replaced both elements and it did not get any better. I have a 04 X and sometimes you canfeel the seats get hot. I printed out all the web messages I could find on this subject and gave them to the regional Ford rep. Never heard back, no surprise. I told him I would like to have a few minutes alone with the engineer who came up with these crappy seat heaters. I own over 30 Ford trucks and threatened to buy Chevy because their seats work great. Just kidding, but it made Ford think.....
I wouldn't have noticed this issue if we didn't own another ford vehicle. A 2000 Expedition. Her seats will cook ya. I'm glad after posting this that I am not alone.
I know what you mean, I have a 05 supercrew that have heated seats with a high and low setting that auto cut off and they will cook your butt. Ford says there is no problem with their seats but on this site and on the dieselstop.com I bet there is 500 complaints.....
ive beentracing thru all the threads on this subject..i have a 2000 expy eb the seats quit heating first the drivers side then the passenger..is there any other
source of problems that might be causing this...thanks Ray
Since they went out one at a time, it is almost certainly the heating element. That is fairly common. I do not know about the Expedition, but the 2000 Excursion had the heating elements molded right into the seat cushion. Therefore the element is not replaceable, you must replace the entire seat cushion.
Fordpartsonline.com does not list a heated seat for the 2000 Expedition, but the parts for the Excursion are $70 for drivers side and $43 for the shotgun seat.
