Strength and durability of the AOD

A buddy of mine is lookin at buying a 92 Ford F150 regular cab short box 4x4 pickup, it has the fuelie 302 with the AOD automatic trans. He want's to use the truck to tow an older 22ft travel trailer. It's pretty heavy I towed it with my 84 F150 4x4 with a 300 six/ 4 speed. I sure felt it back there! I am wondering how well the AOD will hold up in towing this trailer. He doesn't have the button to turn off the OD, if he just pulled it down to drive 2 would he then be okay? Or should he look for a truck with the E4OD instead? Is there any way he could inexpensively beef it up, or would adding a big auxilary cooler be good enough? We both have driven the truck, it's a strong runner and he really likes it. Keep in mind he's a Chevy guy so look at it as a chance to convert someone!

He shoud not tow in OD. More info here. I think they talk towing here and not just racing. A auxilary cooler is always a good idea for towing.

The E4OD is much better suited for towing than the AOD is. The AOD was offered behind the 302 more often than not, and was also available in a lot of cards. The E4OD is a truck transmission, offered behind the 300, 351, 460, and diesels.

If it were me, I'd look for a truck with a 300 instead of a 302 and an E4OD instead of an AOD.
