OK...since this thread is still going...I thought I would update everyone.
Dell screwed up my order.
Yup. They are sending me a Pentium D processor (dual-core) @ 2.8GHz, a 250GB hard-drive, dual DVD/DVD-RW drives, and a 5.1 surround sound speaker system with a subwoofer (which sucks...I already have a stereo in my room, so this will just make everything more cluttered in there).
But, when I looked up the price...this package is $2825. $425 more than the one I ordered. We will NOT be paying them any more than the origional $2400.
Well, its already been shipped. I just got the e-mail last night that said it shipped the 19th.
I think that they didn't have the computer I ordered in stock, and instead of building it, they just sent me one that was similar to it.
I would love to build my own, but I dont have quite the experience neccessary to do it. I can put one together as far as hardware, but the software and setting everything up is beyond me...

its quite easy. i almost think i could walk you through it in an email. (this is if you knew what part was what)
personally, i would never buy a premade system, i like to put mine together to my specs. thats the exact reason i havent got a laptop yet, i cant build one, theres no parts for them.
I think, as far as laptops are concerned, you really aren't going to be doing any hardcore gaming on them or anythingl ike that. They're more just a portable interenet browser/instant messaging machine, and with that a celeron processor, small hd, and 512 mb of ram is plenty. At least thats what my sister's laptop is and it works fine for me whenever i swipe it from her. :-p
Alienware is really expensive, way overpriced.
ATC, you should really consider building your own if its not to late to cancle the order. You could always come on here and ask us questions while you're building a new one. But if you do do this, remember software can get quite expensive if you don't already have copies of everything.

Sorry...but it is too late. Once shipped, we have to pay to have it shipped back, and I think there is a re-stocking fee too.
Plus...I NEED this computer NOW! I need it for my CAD class, and I cant afford to keep driving back and forth from home to school to use their computer lab. I dont have the time to research everything, order it, wait to have it shipped, and then try to figure out how to put everything together.
Thank ya'll very much for the tips and suggestions though!

i said this until i got an hp with a 64 bit amd in it. this thing is unbelievable. its better than most pc's. the only drawback is its kinda heavy. ive had it 2 years and i havent done anything to it except use it
OK...I finally got it today. It just arrived 20 minutes ago. Its still in the box right now...I have to get all the pictures off my old POS and get it out of the way first.
Does anyone know what cable I will need to connect the computer to my stereo receiver...if it can be done?
