Engine Mounts
oh btw
i ended up haveing to cut new slots in stock 400 mounts about 3/4 inch behind the original ones and plug weld the old ones up in order to drop the windsor motor in place of the 351m/400
SET 1: The left stand is almost twice as tall as the right stand. This stand fits
all inline 6, and FE motors.
SET 2: The left stand and the right stand are almost the same height. This
stand will fit 289, 302, 351W, 351C, 351M, and 400.
SET 3: This set looks more like GM stands except the big bolt that goes
through the stand goes in from top to bottom as opposed to front to
back. It is actually a 3 piece mounting system in that there is a metal
cup that bolts to the block, a rubber biscut, and the actual stand.
The rest of the motor mounting sytems have 2 pieces on each side. A
rubber mount that bolts to the block that has a stud that drops down
in to the metal stand. Set 3 fits 429 and 460.
As far as changing the rubber mounts on everything except 429 and 460:
Very carefully jack up the engine, or pick it up with a cherry picker. Lift it just enough to get the studs out of the stands. Make sure to block up the engine good, you may try to get a block of wood between the oil pan and the big cross member. Then simply switch them out, and set it back down. As mentioned earlier, it should only take about an hour with a lengthy beer break in between. FWIW, I changed an oil pump on a 390 with the engine in the truck in about an hour so the motor mounts should be no problem.
