As in 300I6 to replace a 302V8!? I have never heard of this being done and can only imagine there isn't much after market support for it. I really want to ask you why but that wouldn't be really helpfull. Hopefully wiser heads will answer...
Yeah.... There are tonz of aftermarket suport for 302 -5.0's you can even put Mustang parts on them... I dont really understand why you would do such a thing? What is this engine going into? Also if you are stuck on swaping it for a 300, you would have to change the tranny and rear. Would be much easyer to just put a rebuilt 302 in....
I can understand the reasons for the swap... Better mileage and lots more torque. And the bell housing pattern should be the same, right? Other than that, the exhaust will be different as will the accessory brackets. Not sure if the motor mount pads are different, or just the extensions bolted to the engine. Radiator if the inlet and/or outlet are on the wrong side. Wiring harness. Fan shroud.
Come on guys, help me out here. Is the flywheel balance the same?
Should be do-able without too much trouble, especially if you have a complete parts truck to swap from.
Just my 2¢

Yes im putin the 300 in lace of the 302. i already have the motor and all. im gonna do it cause its got alot more hp and tourqe and alot better gas mileage. i have the exhaust and what not. this engines going into a 79 f-100 4x4. i appreciate yalls opinion though.
I can understand the swap after having driven both of them extensively. I think you need to use the 300 flywheel. When performing a swap it is always handy to have a complete "donor" vehicle to look at and grab all of those little brackets and pieces from.
Lets see you lose 2 cubic inches, 2 spark plugs, and 2 spark plug wires...
You pickup a whole lot of torque, a little better mileage, you get an engine with a main bearing on each side of every rod bearing.......
Naw I cant see why anyone would want to that
Very good swap IMHO, especially if you have everything you need to do the swap
If you want 300 performance tips check out the 300 forum here. Simple late model split exhaust manifolds and my favorite "dual plane" front to back split on a clifford manifold can do wonders for a six.
The flywheel / flexplate will not swap between the two. Mileage would be about the same. Between the 300 and 302, hands down, the 300 is a better suited TRUCK engine than the 302. Tranny will swap, you may want a higher geared rear (lower number) as the L6's powerband is lower in the RPM range. After market parts are more scarce and costly, but you can't beat how long it will go and go.
