OK, So I had the transmission fixed, it runs like new...but 1 of the motor mouints is bad...and a place I called in town here wants $300~350 to replace them both.....is it that hard to do, is this something I should be able to do myself? I have never done this before, but I am willing to try...any help?!
C. Lee,
It is just a matter of disconnecting the battery, removing the starter, unbolt the mounts, and jack the engine up far enough to clear the mounts and switch them with the new ones.
Damn !!! I would do them all day long every day for 350 bucks a pop !!!
Just be careful to ensure the engine is secure before you stick your fingures and hands around that area. If your jack gave while you're in there, you might find you would have been better off paying all that money.
If precautions are taken, it's not a bad job to do. Certainly worth saving $350.
Loosen the nut and washer under both of the engine towers, and jack up the engine as Flatbed392 mentioned. Then loosen and remove the bolts which hold down the engine mount.
Awe, 302 cid, You should be able to tackle this project. If you have a car lift, it will be an easier task to tackle. Do you know if it is the driver side motor mount (left side mount) or passenger side motor mount (right side mount).
yup. what the others said. a block of wood, a GOOD floor jack, and a few wrenches. should take no more than 1 hour for both, and thats with a beer break. the trick is to break all the bolts loose, and sometimes i take them out before jacking the motor up. once it is up and the new mounts on but not tight, i let it down, aligning the mounts to the towers, set it in place, and tighten everything up.
well, I found a place in Tinton falls NJ to swap out my engine mounts...and for $40....they did a great job. And next they are gonna do my gas tank! These guys are BIG TIME OL' FORD truck fans! The owners son is building a Bronco from the ground up, and putting a turbo charged Cummins diesel in it...it's gonna be a real beast!
well... im currently in the process of changing out the passenger side mount... we put the new one in and nothing will line up, it is too big. the fan blade is so high that it would slice the top radiator hose. do u guys know why this might be happening, and a fix for it?
thanks
slothshady ..... which motor ? are you changeing frame mount or motor mount
oh btw
i ended up haveing to cut new slots in stock 400 mounts about 3/4 inch behind the original ones and plug weld the old ones up in order to drop the windsor motor in place of the 351m/400
