I should realize that you guys know what you are talking about. Pulled the shifter out and the white wire was broke right as it went into the shifter. Too short to soldier and to small of an area to run new wire. Went to Ford today and bought a new shifter. Not as bad as I had feared, less than $50.
ggirten,
Glad you got it figured out. How hard is it to get the shifter out as I'm pretty sure I've got an intermittent wire as well cause the OD switch works when shifter is in park.
Thanks.
The Shifter Is Quite Easy To Get Out, I Pull The Front Instrument Cluster cover Off, Then Take The 2 Black Plastic Covers That Go Over The Steering Column Around The Shifter.
The Shifter Will Then Be Exposed, All You Will Have To Do Is Knock The Roll Pin Out Of The Base Of THe Shifter & It Comes Right Out. You'll Be Suprised How Easy It Is.
I didn't even remove the cluster. I just removed the 2 plastic covers and knocked the pin out. There is a clip for the wire. The new shifter comes with the overdrive button and the boot. I know have 2 extra overdrive cancel switches I picked up trying to diagnosis the problem.
