2000 Excursion Fuse #19 Keeps Blowing

Fuse #19 is the Instrument Cluster, GEM Module, Overdrive Cancel Switch, PATS/PATS Transiever, Idle Validation Switch (Diesel only).

2000 Excursion V10

Would the wires in the running board have anything with this fuse? The supports are rusted and replacements are on my to fix list.

Of course this happens while my wife has the vehicle and I'm at work....

From reading the list of culprits, I would almost put money down on the dreaded overdrive switch. There have been documented cases of almost fires, and some have burned because of this faulty wiring at the end of the drive selector. I don't have a link for the post but will have a quick look and post back, or do a search.

Here is the link that talks about the problem. Post 31 has a picture of it.

Maybe it's the wires rubbing through in the steering column, this has been a problem with many older Ex's it seems.

This is the very first symptom I had when the Ford dealer discovered my exposed and worn wiring in the steering column. The symptoms get worse as the wiring harnesses moves around in the steering column and bare wires touch metal.
