I just bought a 78 F250 4X4 and it had 16 inch rims and old tires that need replacing. The rims are ony 6 inches wide and will not fit 35/12.5 tires that I want on it. My question is do I have to use 16.5 or 16 inch rims or can I use 15's. Isn't this truck supposed to have 16.5's? I'm only asking because 15 inch wheels/tires are much cheaper and more available.

You can get 15" 8 hole wheels that have a deep offset to clear the brake calipers. Check with National Tire & Wheel. They might have them. Tech line 1-304-233-7917 or online at http://www.ntwonline.com
I dont keep up with big tire tech but in my opinion, stay away from 16.5s-theres gotta be a reason that the car manufactors got away from them.I know 16.5 tires used to be more expensive than 16s,but I'm not sure these days.
I've got a 78 that had the same problem. I put Deep dish 15 inch, 8 bolt rims on it with 10inch wide 33s. It solved the problem. I couldn't tell you where I bought 'em though-"sometimers"disease. Ha
