there is a company out there that i think is called clifford preformance, and it specializes in making more power out of inline 6s...my advice, if you want more power, get a bigger engine...

A good header would help. Try your Q in the inline forum.

Throw that boat anchor away and put a 351W in there or if you don't mind changing the tranny to go to a 390. Them wussy I6s were good for Pintos. :-)

Then you will have a real manly truck to drive. arg arg arg

300 inline 6 lacks power

I had a 240 six in my 66'f100. Same problem...no power..1 barrel carb. I installed an offenhauser intake with a holly 390cfm carb. Also put on a set of try-Y headers out to a single exhaust. Every thing installed easily, I didn't use the throttle linkage kit recomended with the intake, and had the muffler shop run my pipe. Felt like I had little v-8 under the hood. Ran that truck for many years with that set up and it was very dependable.I picked up the intake through J.C.Whitney and the carb from Summet. The headers I ordered from my local parts store. This was the toughest to get right. Some early sixties vans used the same engine but the headers fit differently. Hope this gives you some ideas!

That 300 is like a lot of other engines in that the potential is there but consider the time, expense and lost gas mileage. I have a friend with one that has all the goodies and runs really good but still not as good as a mild 351w/m motor.

Actually I kind of like em. I'd like to build a truly wicked one and stuff it in a lightened falcon but that's another project.

Call Cliford. You can find their number in most hot rod mags. A friend did the intake manifold w/ webber 2 bbl, blue printed head, header and duals in a 63 falcon. He says it's scarry fast and still gets 27 mpg. I plan on doning the same to my daughters 63 falcon.

If you can't find it e-mail me

www.jegs.com you can get the offenhauser intake and a holly 390cfm carb. That 6 is a good strong engine and will run forever. A header and 2 1/2 to 3" pipe with a flow master would be good too but not as easy to change out. The intake carb thing can be done in no time.

a guy running a "6" usually wins at our local dirt track .but I have to believe it was a V6.

Yep I'm with you Otto,

I bought my truck just because it had the 300

I remember back in 76 my dad had a brand new F-250 with an NP 435 and 300 six,
I always loved that truck and that engine was a workhorse,

Seems like mine has plenty of power,

Benford

checkout the l6 forum on this site too

When my l6 was on its last legs (180k miles, cracked block) I swapped it for another l6 (new rebuilt) and added an offenhauser intake, carter 4 barrel carb, and headers. It runs like a bat outta hell now. That 1 barrel carb is a real pos, i rebuilt mine three times (ok, a friend did it, i know nothing about carbs) and within months it slid back into performance hell.

take it easy,
maharashii
