Does Anyone Know The Differance In The 427 Side Oiler That They Put In Marine Applications?i Found One In A Old Boat But Would Like To Know More About It Before I Make A Offer.it Still Runs But Has Not Had Any Recent Work.
most inboard boat engines i have run across or worked on were pretty much saltwater proofed car engines.i have built car and truck engines and instead put them in boats, and i have built boat engines and used them in cars and trucks. if it is from a dual engine boat the direction of rotation is important. a single engine is normally regular rotation.
JMNT, there were both side and top oil 427s installed in boats. To complicate things still further, some of the marine engines were cast as side oilers and machined as top oilers. Many of those engines have a little divot machined out of the side of the block, to fit the engine mounts, that will not allow you to drill out the side oil gallery. Side oiling is kind of a neat thing, but that doesn't mean that a top oiled 427 is a bad thing. Some of the marine blocks sell for decent money...what kind of money are they talking ?
