I have searched my manual, my 6.0L supplement manual, as well as my scheduled maintenance manual. The only thing I see is that the 4R100 Tranny gets a fluid and filter change every 30,000. Can anyone tell me the frequency of the Torqshift?
I read in the tech folder how to do a flush and in one part is says "the internal tranny filter should be changed every other flush or 60,000 miles." Is it true we need to go through that whole process every 30,000 miles??? Or is that for extreme duty trucks that do nothing but pull trailers all the time?
Thanks for the advise. I don't have a problem pulling the plug, changing a screw on filter and filling her back up, but to do the full flush looks like a painstaking 3 hour process.

I did a flush at 30,000 miles (changed spin-on filter) and did a flush and changed both filters (spin-on and in-pan filter).
I watched the dealer do it and made sure he used ONLY MERCON SP fluid. The stuff he drained out looked as bright red and clean as any I have ever seen.
SInce I do not tow (5,000 lbs now and then), I am just staying with the 30,000 mile interval that is listed in the book. Unless one is doing a lot of towing and hard driving... then yes, 15,000 miles would seem prudent and cheap insurance.
I would either do 15,000 or 30,000 based upon whether you tow or not or are experiencing any tranny problems?
There is a difference between a flush and a fluid change. A flush is when additional cleaning chemicals are used to clean any varnish that may have started to accumulate, no matter how minute. The chemical is interfaced with the ATF and a complete fluid change is also done in the process. After the chemical is pumped through the the new fluid is pumped in behind the chemical.
A fluid change is simply that, but remember that just draining the pan is only removing less than half of the total volume of ATF used in the transmission.
I flush every 30k miles and change the filter element, located next to the radiator, every 10k miles, but that is me and the filter is cheap insurance.
Was wondering if people are changing fluid themselves or at dealer? I would like to know the cost difference and what would you do if the tranny filter or fluid has not been changed or flushed in the trucks first 37,000 miles of life.

I did my 30,000 mile flush and 60,000 mile flush at the dealer. At the 60,000 mile, I had them drop the pan so I could see it and replace the internal/pick-up filter as well. Both times, the fluid looked great... bright red as it should be.
Cost was $150 or so (can't remember exact costs).
If your at 37,000 miles I would do a 100% fluid flush and replace the spin-on external filter. The extra 7,000 miles is nothing. With the external filter and the synth. Mercon SP fluid... you are fine!!!
