Me and a friend both have a 99 explorer sport. Mine for some reason doesnt ride as smooth as his does. So my general question, if it can be answered simply, is:
What makes a vehicle ride smooth?
Thanks for any answers

I can't see how lowering the suspension will affect the ride comfort.
To change that, surely you have to alter the spring rate?
Even changing dampers won't improve the ride unless the old ones are shot in which case the car'll actually firm up with new shocks.
But with the amount of sidewall on those tires assuming you didn't go low-profile on big rims, I can see that making a difference.

The front end on mine is a torsion bar suspension and I notice quite a difference up front.. more than I thought I would... as far as softening the ride, the rear is a different matter. It's only a single leaf, flipping the spacer pack lowered me 1.5 in the back and premium shocks seemed to help... of course a taller tire (more sidewall) or less air pressure will help as mentioned before...
