antifreeze/sparkplug hole

I have a 1997 f-150 with 137,000 miles and a 4.6l. My back passenger side plug hole is full of antifreeze and shorting out the plug. There is no antifreeze in the oil. I know this has been posted here before but I can't find the fix. Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction.

that doesn't sound good. Generally antifreeze in the cylinder is either a bad head gasket or a cracked head. The first thing I would do is a compression test. To do a compression test, get a compression tester, or borrow one if you know somone whw has one. Take the spark plug out of the cylinder you want to test, and screw the compression tester into the spark plug hole. Before testing, you will want to disconnect the center distributer wire, or even take the cap off, to ensure the engine won't start. Then crank the engine over three times, you will see the gauge rise with each pump, just count them, it happens pretty quick. It's a two person job, preferably both with some mechanical experience. Test a cylinder independent of the one that's causing problems to use it as a control, that is, what the pressure is supposed to be. (probably between 150 and 175, but I don't know for sure on this engine), and then test the cylinder that's causing your problems. If they are drastically different, then you have a bad gasket or a cracked head.

Leaky heater hose connection right above the hole.

Common problem.

Check it out, if it's not the problem, come back.

Could be the intake itself (or gasket) leaking right there too, water comes out of the head right there.

is the antifreeze inside the cylinder, or just sitting on top by the spark plug?

Antifreeze is only in the spark plug hole where the wire is. none in the cylinder.

Then it is definitely not a leaky head or gasket, because those would leak into the cylinder. I'm sorry, I thought it was down inside the cylinder. I agree with krewat, it's most likely a leaky hose right above the cylinder.

Sounds like you need to put some dye in your coolant, this should help to narrow down the search.

You can find this sort of thing at any popular auto parts house.

Does the plug hole have coolant in it again after all this work?

Sounds like the intake is leaking back there, losing coolant, and causing a vacuum leak at the same time. Cold-engine runs rich during warmup, covering the vacuum leak, warm-engine goes "stoich" and then the vacuum leak makes it run lean in that cylinder (or more than one).

I'd be VERY careful until you know exactly what's happening.

Any check-engine light?
