My turn now. Is there a way to disable the dinger? I believe that it may be integrated with the dash pod as I have not yet located it. I would like to be able to switch it off when I want but still keep it. I had the cluster out once already and don't remember seeing anything like it there. I searched through wiring diagrams and it references me to a microprocessor unit that I believe is the cluster.
Don't know what portion of the dinger you are wanting to disable, completely or just part of it. I have disabled the key sensor, so it doesn't ding when the key is in the ignition, whether the door is open or not, but it will ding once when the door is first open and still go off if the lights are on. There is a black wire with pink stripe if I am remembering right and the wiring didn't change, that goes to the key tumbler. You can either remove it carefully out and tape it off, or simply cut it and tape it off. Either one will get it accomplished.
Thanks. I didn't think to even go there, to the source (key), I mean. That will do the trick. I want to be able to shut it off when in the woods hunting but still have the key in the ignition. Those ***** nilly deer can hear that thing half a mile away.
just cut my pink and black wire and the dinger still goes off with the key. Whassup with that? I even pulled out the tumbler, removed the connector, put everything back and it still dings!!!

no actually it doesn't ding anymore with the key in the off position, but turn it to acc. position and it starts dinging again. My whole purpose was to be able to listen to the stereo with the door open and not hear that dinging.
Ok, so you did kill part of it. You now have to figure out what else to get rid of. If you have a newer truck, it can be a nightmare figuring it all out. With the GEM module and the battery saver relay, and all the communication network, it gets confusing in a hurry.
If it wasn't too much trouble, it may be easier to take the door panel off and figure out the wires that tell the truck the door is open. Possibly you could mount a small switch in the door that would fake it out and it would think the door is actually shut when it isn't.
The wire I cut was Blk/Pink in connector c218a pin 1, circuit 158. This disabled the dinger in 'acc' and 'key in ignition'. It still dings six times or so when you go to run, but this is fine for me. I can leave the radio on with the door open and not get the dinging anymore as well as plain old leaving the key in the ignition. I have on 06 F350. All the other conditions to allow the ding are still functional, which is fine with me. Hope this helps.
