fuseable link problem

fuseable link problem

does anyone have a diagram of the wiring around the starter solenoid? i have a 75 250 and haynes doesnt seem to be right. i keep burning my fusible link that runs from the positive side of the solenoid to the regulator and alternator. i need to know for one if this is right, and what might be causing it to burn up. i just bolted the regulator down real good today to make sure im getting a good ground, but i want to make sure this thing is right before i fire it again.

a bad ground wont blow a fuse, it has to be a power wire shorted to ground.

All the fusible links I know of are between the starter solenoid & the ignition switch.

3 in the harness under the hood & the pink wire that you can see coming out of the ignition switch.

the closest diagram I have is for a 73 mustang and one of the fusable link on that goes to the regulator on the hot lead "A+" so it's possible that is correct. I would try unpluggint the regulator and pulling the hot lead off the alternator before firing it up and see what you get. wire in a fuse holder so you can pop a fuse instead of blowing a fusable link.

eh, fusible link is no big deal, i have a few harnesses laying around with good links. ill try the alternator wire.

Keep in mind if it's on the alternator wire it has to be capable of the output amperage of your alternator. SO if you have a 60 amp alternator you'll need atleast a 60 amp fusable link. That's why i suggested the fuse holder. If you use a fusable link that wont handle the alternator it will pop even if it's good.

It could be that the alternator is hooked up incorrectly. Check out this thread for links in the electrical for wiring schematic to alternator. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...ght=electrical

Check the fusable link, connections and wires which runs from the starter solenoid (positive side towards battery) to the alternator, you will need to peel back the electrical tape to expose and inspect the fusable links, electrical wires, and the soldered connections.

Then you can peel back the electrical tape to expose the wires from the voltage regulator to the alternator joint connections. Check all connections, wires, and fusable links.
