Ok so i have been considering a 3G swap for awhile now but never pulled the trigger.
I was at the junkyard today amd found a 93 Taurus so i decided to go ahead and grab one.
I pulled the alternator and the wires. I got the big black/orange and yellow/white all the way back to the fuse box and green/red i cut right before the big woring harness. Did i miss something?
Just to make sure ive got it right, i need to connect the big black/orange which is connected to the yellow/white into an eyelit connector, to the 175a megafuse then to the side of the starter solenoid that the + side of the battery goes to, the black/white wire is already plugged into the back of the alternator. What about the green/red?
And as im looking at my old alternator and voltage regulator i realized i dont have a wire coming from the "I" terminal of the regulator. My green/red on my regulator comes out of the "s" terminal.
What all do i take out of the old stuff? Do i take the whole regulator out?
Thank you for that. I was using the same one from a similar thread but my question is what specifically do i tie the green/red wire into? That bottom picture helped but still dont know where it goes

I just cut that wire in the picture, and tied it into it. Wrapped it in electrical tape.
Ok thanks alot that really helped. Thats what i though i needed to do but didnt want to cut anything before i knew for sure it was right. I dont do alot of wiring so i appreciate the help
The built-in site search doesn't index 2-character strings - they're below the minimum. But if you use Bing or Google and add "site:ford-trucks.com" to your search, that works pretty well: 3g site:ford-trucks.com - Bing
Just to clarify why im a little confused... while reading the thread about this swap i have been getting mixed messages.
The thread says that the green/red wire should tie into the old "I" terminal from the old voltage regulator. My G/R wire from the original VR is in the "S" slot. Dont know if it doesnt matter and im overthinking but just want to make sure.
So if im correct what i need to do is cut the old G/R wire before the voltage regulator and then splice in the new G/R to the old plug and use the same original 2 prong plug? The one with the G/R and the Yellow for the horn?
Or do you just go past the plug and splice the wires directly together bypassed the plug?
And then take the large Black/Orange power wire from the 3G, cut it, put eyelits on it and attach to a 175a megafuse, then the other end to the battery side of the solenoid. Then loop the Yellow/White wire from the 3G back to the post where the pwer wire connects on the back of the 3G?

I just cut the wire and tied into it. It's so your wiring harness will still have power I believe. The only thing I have running to my Mega Fuse is the main thick cable that supplies your power. So power cable from alternator to one side of fuse, then on the other side of the fuse run your power cable to your hot side of your cylanoid. And yes the yellow wire just loop it back to the alternator. The white wires on the alternator just connect them. Then all you need to do is ground it. Fire it up and make sure you gettin 14 volts.

I pulled the alternator and the wires. .... etc ...
I've been strongly looking at doing the same on my '77, just finding a free day to go look either over at Cunninghams or down at Old Dominion .... what's the going rate where you went I wonder?
I also looked some time back, there are 3G conversion pigtails on Ebay now?
