Odometer education
Evaluating a 2004 Explorer XLT at CarMax San Antonio which showes 9487.9
miles on the odomerter. I am wondering about this milage. All other milage I have seen do not show a decimal point. Are We (CarMax and I) being fooled by the "Trip" odometer and not looking at the car odometer??
Thanks

I doubt anyone can put 94,879 Miles on a vehicle in 2 years.

.....Theres a decimal between the 7 and the 9.....its not even 10,000 miles. Personally if it is the trip odometer, I have never heard of a trip odometer counting the high before reseting itself to 0.

Maybe the questions should be.
Does the trip odometer contain a decimal?
Does the regular odometer contain a decimal?
Thanks

Some odometers do show decimals some don't. I believe my Lincoln LS and my 94 F250 show tenths on the regular odometer. I think my 96 chebby did not.
Yours very probably does have decimals on the odometer. Don't worry about it.
Good Luck,

If I recalll correctly the odometer will not display the decimal point anymore after it rolls past 10,000 miles.

Clipper -
Try "zeroing" the 9487.9; if it changes to 0.0 you were looking at the tripmeter and need to cycle to the odometer to get mileage.
