you sure that 5.55 aint 3.55 because that is the gear ratio and they never had 5.55 stock but they did have 3.55. what axle is this from?

I think you might be right. I wasnt sure if that was a 3, or a 5. Looks like its a 3. So what can you tell me about the 3.55 gears?

the 3.55s were the stock ratio in most trucks with out a tow package (i believe tow package was 3.73s) if you are useing it as a daily driver and dont plan on putting bigger tires on it then it should be fine. if you do plan on putting bigger tires on it and off roading it you might want to think about a new set of gears. i have 3.50s in my truck with 32s and the acceleration lags and strains the engine from a start going up hill, i am currently looking for a set of 4.11s. do you know how many bolts are on the diff cover? also does it have DRW?

ok the rear end is a sterling/ford 10.25. it is a pretty good axle used in the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks then. DRW is dual rear wheels. truck with drw had a dana 80.
