Hello,
I'm intereted in purchasing a Ford Pickup 67-72. Could someone explain to me the differences between the 100, 150 and 250. I'm assuming it has something to do with the hauling capacity and engine size?
the only real difference between an f100, 150 and 250 are the springs. the f100 is a 1/2 ton, f150 3/4 ton and 250 1.5 tons
they might be an engine differnce between the f100 and 150, but it might be the 300 in the f100 and the 302, 351 or 360 in the f150 to the 390 400 460 in the f250. hope this helps
I didn't think that there was an F150 until later. Around 75 or so. And I was under the impression that it replaced the F100. I could be wrong about the above, but I know that my 72 F250 is a 3/4 ton.

John When Ford went to the hundred series they were F100 1/2 ton, F250 3/4 ton, F350 1 ton. In the early seventies when unleaded gas started to appear the F250 and 350 were exempt from using unleaded. Ford with the use of smoke and mirrors came out with a heavy half ton F150 with a heavier(barely under the wire)gvw to use leaded gas. Soon leaded gas was eliminated all together and the F100 faded into the woodwork.
The engine size had nothing to do with it, as they were all available in all three size trucks.

Long live the F100....so, call me stupid but what's the difference between these...is it the capable hauling weight or is it vehicle wight? Or let me guess..it's a combination.. .
The confusion comes from the fact that a half ton truck is rated to haul somewhere between 1000 and 1500 pounds and a 3/4 ton somewhere around 1700 or 1900 pounds.
Derek It is basically springs and axles. The F350 may have a stronger frame, but I don't recall anyone refuting that the F100 & 250 use the same. The same engines, sheetmetal, and trannys were used throughout. By the time you get to the 350 you will see more 3 spd + granny trannys.
You will notice the word RATING, or suggested weight use.
I have hauled more that 2 tons on my F100s more than once. Would I start off on a long trip loaded like that, NO, but I would pump the rear tires up to 50 or 60 psi., load it, move the load and re-adjust the tire pressure.

there are other important differences in the f-100,250 & 350, once you get to the 250, it is equiped with a much stronger full floating axle, heavier brakes...., you cant just throw some 250 or 350 springs up under a f-100 and expect it to haul and handle the load like an f-250
