Here is sound evidence that people that drive gas powered trucks really are smarter than us diesel guys.

Well my 2 cents worth I always shut down. I could maybe understand if it were extremely hot or cold out but the climate here in Washington state is mild to most parts. I tend to listen more that spout off but I understand your turbo needs to cool down before shutting down, well nobody is going sit at a filling station for a few minutes and wait for that, so if it were extremely hot I would let it run. The main difference is the flash point of the vapors. Diesel must be sprayed to ignite as gas will ignite from the fumes. So you have Mr. Daydreamer filling his gasser and it overflows 5 gallons onto the cement and it runs across the pump island and you have someone with an engine running now you have an ignition source. So as a safety standpoint I would recommend to shut down just because of someone elses carelessness. If you were at a truck stop with all diesels it probably wouldn't be as much of a concern. I mean if it weren't a big deal you would be able to smoke while filling up right?
